This past year has been quite a memorable experience. Through good times and bad times alike, Professor Tseng has been able to draw out eagerness in me to learn. It's these qualities that I admire in a teacher. The radiance she emanates in her lectures indicates her passion of the Chinese language and culture. In Chinese 101 I was initially rather intimidated by the concept of learning a tonal language. Professor Tseng seemed rather strict and it was difficult to determine whether she was sympathetic to the difficulties our class encountered in learning proper pronunciation. However, as the class progressed, I came to fully realize that she in fact admired our class determination to learn and always strove to aid us. Her methodology of teaching reminded me much of the structure used in high school with a lot of teacher-student interaction. Was it painful to go to class five days a week? Indeed it was. But I've realized that it has been definitely worth the toil of class and language lab to perfect rudimentary Chinese grammar and pronunciation. I hope that my studies in Chinese will continue to be fruitful and rewarding as I have already found it to be.
