If I said that Chinese 101-102 were my most favorite, the best and the coolest classes of all the classes I took in my first year, most people would think that I was just saying this because I was obligated to. To tell you the truth, this class hasn't only given me the knowledge Chinese language, but it has also given part of my life at UVA. UVA would have been something else to me if I did not take this class. I met the most interesting people in both of my semesters; people that are eager to learn about new culture because after all learning Mandarin is not just about how to write character, being able to read or speak Chinese, but how to understand another different culture. Through each chapter of the text book we always had little discussion on the differences between what the Americans would do and what the Chinese would do. Last but not least, the most important person that has played the biggest role in shaping the environment in our learning Mandarin class is our Tseng Laoshi. Without her great teaching ability, her enthusiasms and her loving in her class and her students, to me (and I'm sure nearly to everyone in the class) this class would never be as intellectual, interesting and fun as it is right now.
