Hi, my name is David Murray. I came to Tseng laoshi's Chinese 101 class with a year of Japanese already under my belt. I knew a couple of people that had studied the two languages at the same time, and seemed to be doing alright with it. So, I came in knowing the meaning of some of the characters, with no clue as to how to pronounce them, and I was already used to pronoucing things in a non-English way, so that's helped me out. The two classes have supplemented each other as far as character reading goes - even though Japanese uses simplified or different characters in a lot of cases, knowing the meaning from Chinese has helped me out in Japanese from time to time, and vice versa. I like just about all the classes I've taken, for various reasons, but the best parts about Chinese class are Tseng laoshi and my classmates. The class is never really boring because everyone is so lively, so I just get to sit back and laugh most of the time. It's great. I'm really looking forward to going to Shanghai, not only because of the great adventure that awaits me there, but because I'll get to share it with the people that I see everyday. It's going to be awesome. So, how are you?
