My name is Edward Kim, I am a first year student in the college. I can still remember trying to decide whether I should take French or Chinese last summer. It is a goal of mine to be fluent in five languages by the time I graduate from college. I thought that one of those languages should be Chinese for a number of reasons. Nearly a third of the worlds population speaks Chinese and the culture is growing as a product of globalization. I have consistently been told how difficult the Chinese language was and that I would never be able to learn. At first, I will admit I shared these views. Here I must thanks Tseng laoshi, had it not been for her, I dont think I would have learned nearly as much this year. She truly is a great teacher, passionate and dedicated. Her class and expectations are rigorous; however, because she prepares her class so well, these challenges are easily overcome. In no other class do I try so hard to live up to my teachers standards. This is because with Tseng laoshi, I feel as though she really cares about my education and that she tries very hard. If it was not for her, I would not be going to Shanghai this summer. Her class has made me feel prepared and ambitious to learn Chinese. I will definitely continue my Chinese education for the next few years. |
