INTRODUCTION

Taking Chinese 101 is an experience that has not only increased my
appreciation for Chinese, but that has also increased my appreciation
for the process necessary for learning a challenging language. This
course has definitely made me a better student simply due to the amount
of effort required to master the concepts presented to us in class.
After taking this course, not only will you be amazed at how much you
have learned in one semester, but you will also walk away with a sense
of accomplishment knowing you have been able to learn the many different
aspects of the Chinese language. At first I felt that Chinese was somehow
inaccessible to a student like me, and I doubted my success at attempting
it. As the class progressed, however, Tseng laoshi’s continual encouragement
and teaching style made learning Chinese and enjoyable and rewarding process
that I am truly glad I experienced. After taking this course, I have the
confidence to go on to higher-level Chinese courses in the future. It has
been a highlight of my academic career at the University so far, and I would
recommend this course to anyone with a passion for learning and challenging
his or herself, while having fun at the same time, of course.

My Most Excellent Work

1.	Lesson 8- School Life
2.	Lesson 7- Studying Chinese
3.	Lesson 2- Family

I have selected these passages as “My Most Excellent Work” because I feel
they are the most representative of the progression of the quality of my
writings. I feel my composition on Lesson 8 is my best work because I managed
to use many of the new vocabulary words and grammatical concepts effectively
and managed to refrain from making many errors. I was able to compose an
interesting composition that has more original thought in it than my other
compositions. I also liked my composition on Lesson Seven because I think I
tried to challenge my writing abilities by using new grammatical structures and
writing a narrative that had a lot of content to it. I selected Lesson 2’s
dialogue because I think it show where I became more comfortable with writing
in Chinese, since it required me to use structures that were new to me. Although
this is a passage from early in the course, I feel it shows my development in
writing skills.
