INTRODUCTION

Although Chinese is not required for my major, I feel that this class has been
one of the most beneficial classes I have taken at UVa. Chinese is one of the
best-taught and most well organized classes I have taken here. While the workload
was sometimes time-consuming, the effort put into assignments was not wasted. This
semester I have learned to read and write many Chinese characters and to speak the
Mandarin dialect of Chinese. As an American-born Chinese, I found this class to be
fairly easy, yet I must emphasize that I have learned a lot more than expected.
Overall, I have enjoyed taking this class, and therefore, will continue to learn
Chinese next semester.

My Most Excellent Work

1.	Lesson 4- Hobbies
2.	Lesson 7- Studying Chinese
3.	Lesson 8- School Life

Of all the passages I have written throughout the semester, I have chosen these
three. I chose them based on quality as well as content. I realized that my
compositions continuously got better with each new lesson. I chose the dialogue
from Lesson 4 mainly because of its content, which deals with eating a meal. I
liked this dialogue because I could easily use it in my daily life to converse
with my family. As for the other two passages, I chose them because they dealt
with school life, which I could closely relate to my life. Of all my passages, I
felt that my narrative for Lesson 8 was the most challenging since there were many
new grammatical structures in that lesson.
