Summer McCoy

INTRODUCTION

I absolutely loved this class. I came in not knowing a word of Chinese
and I will enter next semester having mastered several hundred characters.
I have learned so much so quickly from this class. I have also enjoyed
having Tseng laoshi as a teacher. She made class very enjoyable, and
without her great personality Chinese class would have been very boring.
At the beginning, I was very nervous about whether or not I would like
Chinese and whether it would be hard, but now I am planning to take Chinese
102 next semester (which I had no intention of doing when I first signed up
for Chinese 101), and I may go even further than that with the language!

My Most Excellent Work

1.	Lesson 2- Family
2.	Lesson 5- Visiting Friends
3.	Lesson 7- Studying Chinese

I have chosen the three passages in which I have best presented the things
I have learned over the course of the semester as my most excellent work.
The first is my dialogue from Lesson 2. I chose this one because I feel
like I made the fewest mistakes in my grammar and character writing and I
made my best grade on it, although the actual text is not very exciting.
My next choice is my narrative from Lesson 5- Visiting Friends, which I was
proud of because I found that I was writing about something that I would
normally write about in English. It is great when I find I can write in a
non-English language about real experiences I have had in my life. The third
passage I chose is my narrative from Lesson 7. I chose this one for the same
reasons as my second choice; mainly because I really feel that I have learned
a lot from a class when I can write about things that I actually do (like
study Chinese vocabulary), which I learned to talk about in this lesson. All
three represent how much I have learned in Tseng laoshi’s class, especially
as a student who entered not knowing any Chinese.
