INTRODUCTION

As a fourth-year in my last semester, I had the opportunity to
take Chinese 101 with Tseng laoshi as my last elective at UVa.
I will admit that, being a semester away from graduating from
the Engineering School, I had the added pressures of a job search
and several other demanding courses to handle as well. Therefore,
I was not fully prepared to dedicate as much effort to Chinese as
some of my classmates. However, it was clear that Tseng laoshi is
the type of professor who demands every student’s best effort.
She was dedicated to our learning grammar, characters and context,
and she worked harder for her students than I have seen many other
teachers try. In the end, I found my experience in Chinese 101 to
be worth the effort I put in, and I learned a great deal in only
one semester.

My Most Excellent Work

1.	Lesson 1- Greetings
2.	Lesson 3- Dates and Time
3.	Lesson 8- School Life

I chose these three dialogues because they were the most grammatically
accurate and made the best use of the lesson’s vocabulary. Lessons 1
and 3 follow closely the prototypes in the text, while Lesson 8’s
narrative was a little more creative, and it is my favorite.
