INTRODUCTION This class has been the most challenging course I have taken at the University of Virginia. Indeed the fifty minutes I spend with my beloved instructor, Tseng laoshi, makes me feel as though I have been placed on the streets of Shanghai. Fortunately, this course is both demanding and entertaining; a worthy representation of the unique academic experience only the University can offer. The immersion into the Chinese language demands a ‘sink or swim’ ultimatum- thankfully, I swim. My Most Excellent Work 1. Lesson 8- School Life 2. Lesson 6- Making Appointments 3. Lesson 4- Hobbies I am particularly fond of Lesson 8 because the vocabulary allowed me to introduce my interests and talents. Lesson 6 is another favorite because it teachers the basic Chinese telephone conversation. Lesson 3 is also interesting because the chapter signaled an integration of Chinese language into everyday life.
