INTRODUCTION I have enjoyed Chinese 101 very much. This is the only class I actually looked forward to when I woke up in the morning. I was motivated to do the homework and to study. I put so much time and effort into the work and writing and I saw improvements quickly. Tseng laoshi is a great teacher. Everyday she drills us with the new vocabulary and we have weekly quizzes to make sure we got the stuff down. Also, because she had such high expectations for us, it keeps us in the right focus and with the mentality to never underestimate our capabilities. I still remember the first week of class when I thought we sounded really silly attempting to pronounce the four tones of pinyin, but now when I look back, it is not silly at all. My Most Excellent Work 1. Lesson 5- Visiting Friends 2. Lesson 6- Making Appointments 3. Lesson 7- Studying Chinese It was quite difficult to pick out the best three works from my weekly dialogues and narratives. The beginning works were too simple, but as the year progressed the dialogues were better, with more vocabulary and grammar. My first one, Lesson 5, is a narrative, and I selected this one because it showed the usage of 'le' and because I was able to use old vocabulary with the new words. The second choice, Lesson 6, was selected because it not only incorporated the idea of how to communicate on the phone, but also because I used a lot of past vocabulary words. The third pick, Lesson7, was chosen because the dialogue was very relevant to class and to what some of my feelings about the class are. I felt in all three that my partner and I tried to use as much vocabulary and grammatical structures as we could to do well. Although sometimes our dialogues were a bit too long for memorization, I was satisfied when they were completed.
