INTRODUCTION

My experience learning has often defied description, but I will try nonetheless. When I
began learning the language, the most difficult aspect was making the transition from an
alphabetic language to a language that is character-based. In CHIN 101, there seemed to
be times when I struggled learning some characters (particularly the more difficult ones)
and speaking the language. Throughout this semester, I felt that I have made great
strides in learning and recognizing characters, yet my speaking still needs some work.
I also feel that my listening comprehension has improved this semester. Admittedly, I
consider Chinese language to be my most difficult class, but it is also certainly the
most rewarding. Foreign languages have never been a strong point for me, but I have
put a great deal of time into my Chinese, and have reaped the benefits in return.
This is why I have like and appreciated Chinese language so much since I started learning
it.

My Most Excellent Work: 1) Renting an Apartment 2) Asking Directions 3) Dating

These selections were made for several reasons. First of all, each of these selections
present a wide variety of content in terms of grammar points and characters. Second, I
earned high grades on all of these assignments. Last, I earned praise from Tseng Laoshi
for all of these dialogues, and I feel they were representative of my ability in Chinese.
