INTRODUCTION

CHIN 101 & 102 are a lot of work. Some of it is tedious (Character Workbook, the hour of
lab work per week) but a lot of it is fun (especially the dialogues, not to mention the
skits done for the final exam). CHIN 101 & 102 involved at least ten hours of work per
week, but you also learn a lot. I have learned more in one year of Chinese than in two
or three years of Spanish (which I learned in high school). Tseng Laoshi is one of my
all-time favorite teachers, and one of the best at the University of Virginia. Learning
Chinese is a lot of work, but well worth it.

My Most Excellent Work: 1) Hometown 2) Asking Directions 3) Midterm

Hometown is first because it has one of the highest grades I received all semester.
Asking Directions is second because it the longest of the bunch and very light-hearted.
The midterm monologue is third because it is fairly long and better-written than most of
my other monologues.
