INTRODUCTION

This has been an incredible learning experience so far.  It is fascinating to explore a 
language and communication system so different from our own and from any of the European 
languages.  The work is very challenging, and VERY fulfilling.  I do it because I 
personally need to, for improvement not because the teacher orders me to and attaches 
a grade to it.  Finally, there are no people in this class who do not personally desire 
to learn Chinese.  Everyone wants to be here, and takes it very seriously.  As a result, 
everyday is a satisfying experience, and some really fun, warm, different relationships 
develop.

My Most Excellent Work: 1) 

I chose these three passages because they seem to be the most extensive and interesting, 
both in usage of grammatical structures and in subject matter.
